An Act of Kindness Where You Can Help, Too
How about helping an infertile couple who could use a hand? My Act of Kindness category has been, well, collecting dust. It's not that I haven't been actively on the look out for examples of how someone in the infertility community got a boost either through an unexpected gesture or empathetic expression of support. Now's your chance to join me in perpetrating an Act of Kindness. Jenna noted in a recent post that she and her husband Mike have experienced "the trifecta of nightmares...infertility, miscarriage and a failed adoption."
A friend who learned about Jenna and Mike's latest setback created a raffle in order to raise money for infertility awareness and help them on their way to becoming parents. Here's what's taking place...
Jenna's friend and husband have purchased a brand new 8GB Iphone, a 60GB PlayStation 3, and a basket of 4 Webkinz as raffle prizes. They have also partnered with RESOLVE in this venture so the profit from the raffle will be shared between that organization and Jenna and Mike's efforts to adopt a baby. In addition to that, 5% of the proceeds will be given to a randomly selected adoption/IF blogger.
I have already purchased my tickets, and if I happen to win the 5% of proceeds it's going back to Jenna and Mike to fund their adoption efforts. (I know from experience that IVF drains the bank account in a big way, but I had no idea adoption was so ridiculously costly as well!) Click on this link to participate.

And I'm also participating in Lori's Chain Link Blogging Week. I started with Jenna's blog. Care to link around?

I know that when my DH and I first started seriously talking and investigating our options, we decided that doing at least 3 IVFs was cheaper (with or without insurance) than one domestic adoption - at least where we are.
I know adoptees who are appalled at the current state of adoption and adoption costs. I have to plug Debora Spar's book "The Baby Business" if you want to really get an idea of how we got here.
Pax,

You are a good friend and a kind person, Pamela Jeanne.
